About

Aztec Temples

Aztec Temples is a band from Leicester that formed in September 2014.

The band is made up of  Shay McDermott (lead guitarist and vocals), Lewis Brown (drums), Conor Simpson (lead vocals) and  Tom Dewsbery (bass.)

Shay McDermott (lead guitarist) and Lewis Brown (drums) had a couple of jams together and had been thinking about starting a band for a while, whilst Conor Simpson had written a song. The members  decided to all meet up one Sunday at Stayfree Studios and ran through the song Fall a few times. They all hit it off from there. It took them a good few months to find a bass player but in January 2015 Tom Dewsbery joined the band and has slotted in nicely.

The type of music played is Alternative indie rock with a semi acoustic flavour. Between the five musicians, there are quite  a few different influences. Noel Gallagher is one to mention, as he has consistently churned out great tunes and he’s not bad at writing either! Shay is a big Jimi Hendrix fan and was a huge influence for him to pick up guitar and play lead. He also listened to a lot of Black Sabbath when he was younger. In terms of writing lyrics, a big influence for Conor is John Rzeznik of The Goo Goo Dolls. After hearing Iris this made Conor want to start writing lyrics. Lewis Brown just loved the idea of playing drums as everybody else seemed to want to play guitar!

Aztec Temples write all their own original songs and music with killer riffs.  When heard, these songs will be going around in your mind and you’ll have the whole ‘stuck in your head’ situation!

Music in Leicester magazine recently voted Aztec Temples their band of the month for May:
